My process
Sometimes, the best way forward is not about leading but about listening—allowing communities to choose what serves them best. This ensures design becomes a tool for empowerment rather than imposition.
My values
I designed my framework with David Hakaraia to ensure these values led any project I start.
Connection
The pikorua koru is a Māori design often used in pounamu pendants. It has a continuous form, representing an iterative flow. It also symbolises the intertwining of lives and the bonds between people and cultures. In my model it reflects the connection points of stakeholders in my design.
Equity
As a creative, I am aware of the responsibility that comes with shaping experiences, narratives, and systems. This is why fair representation is at the heart of my work, which means actively designing for equity and championing diverse lived experience. As a designer, I am committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi in my work. I acknowledge that I still have a lot to learn, and I am dedicated to engaging with te ao Māori.
Community
I'm a big believer that a design process for social impact shouldn't be private. It should be collaborative and accessible, so arranging workshops and focus groups are important to organise in my process. This means the creative result is something everyone is proud of and can share.
